The Winchester Design 1895 has the distinction of becoming the first Winchester lever-action rifle to load from an inner box journal in place of from an inner tube journal under the barrel. This allowed the Model 1895 for being chambered for military cartridges with spitzer (pointed) projectiles, plus the rifle was used from the armed forces of num
